STC settles with Toshiba Corp.
Albuquerque, NM, October 16, 2009 - The University of New Mexico’s Science and Technology Corp. has reached a settlement with Toshiba Corp. over an accusation of patent infringement.
The STC, which manages technology transfer at UNM, had filed a complaint in U.S District Court in New Mexico last March. The university alleged that Toshiba Corp. and Toshiba Electronic Components unlawfully used a patented UNM invention that significantly improves the capability of semiconductor manufacturers to make next-generation chips.
"STC was very pleased to reach an agreement with Toshiba on this important technology," Kuuttila said in a prepared statement.
The technology was developed by Steven Brueck, a UNM professor of electrical and computer engineering and head of the university’s Center for High Technology Materials.
The technology, patented in 2000, pertains to innovative lithographic methods that allow for the manufacture of smaller features in semiconductor devices.
